![]() May 29, 2012 TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – One year after watching other entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas in the Black Enterprise $10,000 Elevator Pitch contest, Florida A&M University (FAMU) alumna Ebonee Rudolph decided to compete and won. Rudolph, whose pen name is Ebonee Monique, is the owner of the boutique ghostwriting firm "Mama I Want to Write!" In 60 seconds, in front of approximately 1,500 people, and on her 30th birthday (May 24), Monique convinced celebrity judges at the annual Black Enterprise Entrepreneurs Conference and Expo in Chicago, Ill. that her business was worth the investment. “Last year, I was watching this elevator pitch from the audience,” said Monique. “I am overjoyed to be able to see my growth as a business owner and to have received such great feedback from my pitch!” The feedback she has received since winning the competition has been positive for Monique and her company. Soon she will be featured on the Michael Baisden Show as the “Business of the Week,” which recognizes companies with a proven track record of success. Baisden was one of three celebrity judges in the Black Enterprise $10,000 Elevator Pitch contest. Monique is a native of Tampa, Fla. and a 2004 FAMU graduate of the School of Journalism and Graphic Communication, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations. She is the daughter of former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Council Rudolph, Jr. and Anne Rudolph. As Florida’s Teacher of the Year, Davis also serves as the state’s Christa McAuliffe Ambassador for Education, visiting schools throughout Florida to speak on education issues. Davis’s competition for the national prize includes the teachers of the year for Alabama, California, and the U.S. Department of Defense. On Monday, Davis was honored at Vice-President Joe Biden’s residence at the U.S. Naval Observatory in Washington. Biden’s wife, Dr. Jill Biden, an educator for more than 30 years, hosted the reception. After being selected as a finalist in January, Florida Education Commissioner Gerard Robinson described Davis as “a competent and passionate educator who makes sure his students have every chance for success.
